Helping A Girl Love Her Reflection
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
She is always looking for herself
Girls scan every story for the character who looks like them. When she never finds one, she quietly concludes that girls like her are not the main character.
That is why coats, manes, skin tones and hair textures are not a small detail. They are a message about who gets to be celebrated.
Ground it deeper than looks
Representation on its own can still leave her measuring herself. Psalm 139 goes underneath appearance: she was made deliberately, by a God who does not make mistakes.
Pair the mirror moment with the verse. Praise the way she thinks, the way she is kind, the way she keeps trying — not only how she looks.
Let her see herself, then tell her who made her that way.
