The Comparison Trap
“For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.”
Comparison is a measuring stick that always moves. There is always someone further along, and the girl you envy is probably envying someone else.
Scripture calls constant comparing unwise — not because you are bad for doing it, but because it measures you against the wrong standard. God's opinion of you is settled, and it does not move when someone else does well.
A practical step: when you notice the sting, pray for the person instead of scrolling past them. It is almost impossible to resent someone you are genuinely praying for.
Prayer
Father, free me from measuring my life against everyone else's. Let Your view of me be enough. Amen.
